Arlene Martin Kocsis Cosmetology Scholarship

Arlene Martin Kocsis started attending cosmetology school part time after she was married and her first child was two years old. Soon after completing cosmetology school and receiving her license she became a single parent. She supported herself and her young son by working at beauty shops in downtown Flint when it was the center of Flint’s retailing activity. She remarried and had three more children. After her children were older she worked for many years in a beauty shop managed by her older sister Julia Dimock. Later she provided beauty treatments at senior housing facilities and for shut-ins. Her oldest granddaughter is currently attending MCC ‘s School of Cosmetology following in her footsteps.
