Ed Thorne Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was established in memory of Ed Thorne in recognition for his years of service to Mott Community College and the community. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to the student who is majoring in education and has demonstrated community involvement while pursuing his/her educational studies at Mott Community College. Edward Thorne has a rich history of serving his community. He was elected to his first term on the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in June of 1995. He worked for the Flint Community Schools for 35 years as a community school director, a deputy principal, and as principal at Flint School of Choice, an alternative high school. Mr. Thorne volunteered for or held offices with numerous civic and service groups, including the American Heart Association, Flint Olympian and CANUSA games, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Flint, Flint Area School Employees Credit Union, First American Health Care Network, and others. He also served as the state chair for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). He passed away September 17, 2000, leaving a legacy of volunteerism to the city of Flint.
